"No One Cares What You Want"

Objective: Seeking a position where I can utilize my excellent business and technical skills while being given an opportunity for progressive growth in a company.

Pretend I'm a hiring manager. Please tell me why that statement in your resume is important to me? How does telling me what you want, help me as a manager? It doesn't help me, because I don't really give a rat's furry butt what you want. On top of that, I just stopped reading the rest of your resume and I just placed it in the circular file. . . Next resume.

I'm only interested in what skills you bring to the table. I want to know how you made a positive contribtuion to your previous companies. What results did you achieve? What can you do for me that makes you different from the 50 other resumes on my desk? Why should I read the rest of your resume?

As a hiring Manager, I only read resumes that assuage my 3 greatest fears?

1. Fear of loss

2. Fear of failure

3. Fear of hiring the wrong person


Can Your Resume Pass My 6 second Acid Test?
I want to interview people who present resumes that grab my attention in 6 seconds or less AND peek my curiosity enough to make me want to read the rest of it.

So get rid of "Objective". Replace it with Skill Summary or Profile or Professional Background etc. Now give me 2-3 powerful reasons why I should read your entire resume AND call you for an interview.

Remember WIIFM, as you try grab my attention.
